Bike and Cycling Services

Lanarkshire is home to a wide network of cycling routes. These range from functional paths linking up everyday journeys to rural trails, connecting villages and towns with amazing local landscapes. From easy-going trails in Strathclyde Park and Dalziell Estate to longer stretches of the Clyde Walkway into rural Lanark, Lanarkshire has a lot to offer for cyclists of all abilities. Not only is cycling a fantastic, cost-effective way to improve your health and connect with nature, it’s also great for the environment and has enormous benefits for our climate, such as:

    Reducing carbon emissions

Cycling produces none of the harmful gases created by most motorised vehicles which contribute to poor air quality. Cycling helps to keep our air cleaner and healthier for everyone.

    Lowering noise pollution

Cars and other forms of motorised transport can make urban and rural areas noisy, which can contribute to stress and anxiety. Bicycles are virtually silent and make our surroundings quiet and peaceful.

    Reducing traffic

When there are too many cars on our roads, traffic and congestion can build up, further contributing to emissions and poor air quality. For every person cycling instead of driving, congestion is reduced.

Preserving green routes and encouraging cycling-friendly infrastructure

Increased use of our cycling network promotes further investment in safe, dedicated cycling routes which are more cost-effective and requires less ongoing maintenance than car-centric infrastructure.

    Supporting sustainable production

Bikes require far fewer resources and less ongoing maintenance than most forms of motorised transport, and many bike brands are still made here in the UK today.
