What have other community groups done

Swaddle is a social enterprise in Hamilton which was established by local mums to support parents in the early years of parenthood. Their mission is to give all families access to great quality low-cost preloved clothing and equipment and to provide space and opportunities for families to engage with their community to promote emotional wellbeing.

Cumbernauld Vineyard Church began its repair cafe in 2023. They recognised that it’s becoming more and more apparent that our ‘throwaway’ society, fuelled by over-consumption of cheap goods, is totally unsustainable. They also recognised that the knowledge and ability to repair and ‘make do and mend’ have been lost over the years and valuable practical skills are not being passed down through generations.

One of the themes of the Cloudberry Communities is to support active travel and community wellbeing activities in the eight former mining villages of the Northern Corridor. They offer a service to the community to donate used bikes which are then reconditioned before being reused by another member of the community. This ensures that used bikes are not sent to landfill waste. The same principles of reuse led them to set up a tool library. This enables tools and equipment to be shared by groups in the community, through short term loans.

LAMH Recycle is a social enterprise in Motherwell who provide recycling services. They have over twenty years of providing safe, efficient, and SEPA registered IT Waste Management and WEEE Recycling services across Central Scotland. Through their service delivery they support community members to acquire employability skills, build a CV, and give them a meaningful employment opportunity where they can feel part of a team.
