What have other groups done?

We appreciate that setting up a new growing project from scratch can be a formidable task and it is difficult to know where to begin.

Here you will find examples of other organisations that have done just that along with links to organisations providing support alongside resources that have been developed to make the process less daunting

Examples of how communities are taking climate action on Food:

Clydesdale Community Initiatives

Clydesdale Community Initiatives leads many food growing projects including sessions at several hospital sites in Lanarkshire where produce is grown and used in the hospitals. They coordinate the Clydesdale Food Growing Network, support the Clyde Valley Orchard Cooperatives and run a social enterprise at Langloch Farm.

Carluke Development Trust

Carluke Development Trust is in the process of taking the derelict buildings and spaces of Carluke High Mill and transforming them into a Community Growing and Learning Garden and Heritage Site.

Cumbernauld Village Community Council

Cumbernauld Village Community Council have a food growing project called Village Veggies. They have sought grant funding for food growing equipment and recruited volunteers to help the community to reduce local carbon emissions through growing their own food.

Larkhall Community Growers

One of Larkhill Community Growers projects which began with the aim of reducing social isolation, helping with mental health and empowering the community is Hareleeshill Community Garden.   After taking on a 25 year lease of a derelict piece of land which is located behind an area of housing, they have built an area which is used by many individuals and groups in the community, containing raised planter beds, polytunnels, sensory garden, wildlife garden, artworks from local artists and school groups and an outdoor classroom.
