Insulation
Insulating you home is a great way to help keep your home warm and it also has the benefit of helping to reduce your heating bills and your carbon footprint.
There are various methods to insulate your home such as loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation and floor insulation.
If you are not sure if your home has insulation or if it needs topped up, you can contact Home Energy Scotland via 08088082282 and request a home energy check to be carried out over the phone.
Pros & Cons of insulating your home

Pros
- Makes your home feel warmer and cosier. It also keeps your home warmer for longer if you turn off your heating.
- Saves you money on your energy bills by reducing the amount of energy lost through your external walls and loft.
- On the odd scorching summer day, your home feels cooler than before.
- Reduces your carbon footprint
Cons
- Depending on the type of property some insulating measures can be expensive to implement e.g. solid wall insulation in a sandstone building.
- If the insulation isn’t fitted correctly/by a professional then damp could occur e.g. ventilation covers are incorrectly covered by loft insulation
- The process can cause upheaval and disruption and some of the bigger insulating projects like solid wall, may be better done when renovating the home.

Choosing an insulation provider in Lanarkshire
We would always recommend that you use a reputable installer. Your installer should be a member of one of these organisations:
- The National Insulation Association (NIA)
- The Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA)
- The British Board of Agrément (BBA)
Check whether the installer is signed up to a code of professional practice and that the installation is guaranteed for 25 years by CIGA, or through an independent insurance-backed guarantee.
To ensure you get a fair price for the job, we recommend getting a quote from three different installers.
