Climate Café
What is it?
A Climate Café is a pop-up space for people to get together to talk and act on climate change. The conversations often lead to exciting ideas, projects and action.
They are informal, inclusive spaces where everyone is welcome to join the conversation and get involved.
Most meet monthly for a couple of hours. Some meet in person, others online, or as a hybrid. Some have speakers to inform and guide the conversation.
Co-ordinators organise the space, drinks and make sure it’s a safe, accessible space for everyone to feel comfortable.
Who is it for?
Everyone can get involved in Climate Cafes! Sometimes cafes are set up for specific groups such as community groups, schools, and workplaces.
What are the benefits?
Some of the benefits to taking part in or hosting a Climate Café include:
- Climate Cafes are community-led, so there’s often a local focus and discussion about things that matter to you and people in your area.
- You don't have to be an expert to join; all perspectives are welcome.
- Each Climate Café is unique to its people and place.
- Climate Cafes are unassociated with political parties and not-for-profit.
How can I take part?
Climate Action Strathaven runs a monthly Climate Café. The café was set up to support more voices being heard and to come up with solutions together. The café has been running for a year and is now guiding Climate Action Strathaven's actions. For examples, as a result of the Climate Cafes they've introduced more community litter picks.
If you're interested in joining one of their Climate Cafes, please contact Climate Action Strathaven.
I would like to set up a Climate Café
No traning is required to set up a Climate Cafe, but support is available from the Climate Cafe Network Hub.
When Climate Action Strathaven was setting up their cafe, the network was an invaluable resource to help them get started.
