Youth Reuse and Sharing Grant
What is the Youth Reuse and Sharing Grant?
The Youth Reuse and Sharing Grant is a grant of up to £1000 for projects that involve young people aged between 16 to 25 years old, to introduce a more sustainable way of buying and using products through enabling shared access, providing reusable items or finding new ways to repurpose unused items.
What is a reuse and sharing project?
Reuse means having items that can be used again and again. For example, football teams replaced single use drinks bottles with reusable drinks bottles in the #PlayACleanGame project. Reusable takeaway containers are used by Food Punks Project Pizza
Or breathing new life into items that have been disposed of. For example, at Revolve Recycle, the vibrant second-hand stores in Cambuslang & Rutherglen that offers access to affordable, stylish clothing, shoes and accessories.
Sharing libraries are set up to share items across your community. Source, borrow and return. This keeps an item actively in use for as long as possible, it reduces the need for a greater number of items to be produced and it can save you money. For example, Music Broth runs a library of musical instruments, allowing members to borrow instruments such as an electric guitar along with items like an amp and cable. Decathlon has a rental service for sports equipment ranging from bikes to kayaks, tennis rackets to tents.
Designing your project
We want young people to be involved in the design of the project. You may want to ask these questions to the young people you work with:
- What changes would you like to see and why?
- How would you encourage your peers to reuse or share?
- What would make it easier for you to reuse or share?
Consider how reusing and sharing could help with the activities that your young people are involved with or are interested in such as:
- Camping equipment for Duke of Edinburgh award
- Sustainable fashion show to showcase outfits for end of term celebrations
In preparing your application, get in touch with our Waste Development Officer to discuss your ideas and the needs of your group. She can assist with the development of your project idea.
What can the grant be used for?

- Research such as surveys and gathering insights
