What is the Climate Ready Places Grant?
The Climate Ready Places Grant is to enable your community to consider what the impacts from these climatic changes and extreme weather will look like in your local area and to identify ideas for how you prepare to respond to them.
Place-based community organisations including Development Trusts, Community Councils and Resident Associations can apply for funding up to £2000. The Climate Ready Places Grant will enable your group to host a workshop, which can be facilitated by the Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub and which will look at how your community can prepare for a changing climate. The workshop will gather observed local insights, consider the list of climate impacts from Adaptation Scotland and map this information onto a plan of your area. From the insights gathered at your workshop, your group can use the Community Climate Adaptation Routemap to identify climate actions and future projects and prioritise a climate action project to begin and which is funded through this grant.
All activity including the workshop and the climate action project must be completed by 31st March 2026.
Examples of climate impacts
Adaptation Scotland have identified a list of 15 climate impacts, some of these include:
- The security of our food supply
- The availability and quality of our water
- The increased risk of flooding
- The resilience of our buildings
- The security and efficiency of our energy supply
In preparing your application, consider how these would apply in your local area.
What is the Community Climate Adaptation Routemap?
It’s not always clear where to start when thinking of actions and projects that your community can take to prepare for a changing climate. The routemap is a visual resource to begin exploring practical actions and links to find out more on how to deliver them.
Examples of projects may include tree planting, flood prevention, increasing /improving eco systems, improving efficiency/structure of buildings. Purchasing kits that will help during an extreme weather event such as sandbags and torches, providing your local community with a comms plan on how to prepare for flooding/storms such as a website with a list of local resources and where to access help.
